If you were not there you were missed. The meeting was well-attended, with 41 members enjoying a delicious buffet and time to socialize. This new location was very nice and a good change for the Club. 2008 marks the 30th Anniversary for Granite State Carriage Association and celebration plans are in the works. We will be celebrating our 30th at the Newbury, NH event on September 3-7, 2008. Hosts of the Newbury Drive Marty Newell and Linda Woodbury will be seeking volunteers to help out so if you plan to attend and would like to help contact them at 603-938-5935. Be sure to visit our website and newsletter for details as they unfold. Board member Sonja Cahill is heading up a project to put together a Memorabilia Booklet commemorating our 30 years. She is actively seeking volunteers to help pull this project together. If you are interested in volunteering please contact her at 978-851-5124. An announcement of new officers for the upcoming year was made by Nominating Committee Chair, Liz Herrick and following is your 2008 slate of Officers: Cresca Albright as President, Laurie Goodwin as Vice President of Planning, Cathy McLeod as Secretary, Linda Woodbury as Treasurer and Sonja Cahill, David Herrick, and Marie Terkelsen, as additional Board members. Welcome Marie we are looking forward to working with you on the Board. Thank you to the Nominating Committee for your work. Nancie Jarvis, Marilyn Williams and Gale Hepfinger were appointed as the Nominating Committee for 2009 elections. If you are interested in serving on the Board I encourage you to contact any of them so that when a position becomes available they will be in contact with you. We need people to serve on the Board and new people bring new ideas and new perspectives which is always good for our club or any club for that matter. Eric and Linda Wilking ran the auction again this year with assistance from Bob Cahill. Eric does a great job getting people to bid and bid generously! This is not an easy job but Eric makes it look that way. Linda did an excellent job keeping track of the items bid on and this, too, is a not an easy job especially when everyone jumps up to pay for their items at the same time!. Not only have these two run our auction two years in a row but they have been selling our old stock of Tee shirts and sweatshirts (about $300 worth!) and they host a lovely drive in Auburn in October! Thank you both for working so hard to make our auction profitable and ensure our club’s success. Bob Cahill modeled horse blankets, fly masks and halters! Those are visions that will last all year long! Thanks Bob for being such a good sport. New this year is the Ellet Seavey award which replaces the Sandra Platts award. It is a bronze horse head statue donated by Shirley Seavey. The very first recipient of this award is Vice President, Laurie Goodwin. The award is given to the member who has been most helpful to others at club events and embodies the spirit of the club. This award is well deserved by Laurie because in addition to her willingness to help others at drives she serves on the Board last year as well as the By-laws Committee and the Nominating Committee in the past. Thank you for your service to the club Laurie, you set an example for all of us. Thank you to Shirley for her generosity to our Club. Rick and Connie Moses won the participation award. Congratulations for being able to attend so many of our great events! Unfortunately, they were not at the meeting to accept the award in person. Granite State Carriage Association publishes a great newsletter each and every month for its members but the cost of mailing this is getting more and more expensive. In looking for ways to defer the costs of postage we would like to email the newsletter to all members with email addresses. This will not only save money on postage but it will also help our environment in several ways. Please let both Ginger LaPlante (canterbrk@aol.com) and Eileen Peterson (eileen.peterson@comcast.net) know that you are able to receive the newsletter via email and update your email address if necessary. There are several benefits to receiving the newsletter this way to you as well. You can view it on your computers screen, enjoy the color pictures and print off only the portions that you want with out all the rest. If you don’t have a computer you will still be able to receive the newsletter in the mail but if you are able to receive it via email so much the better. Be sure to update your contact information and email address when it changes to keep you current. Small changes can have big effects and we appreciate your cooperation. I hope to see more and more of you at our events this year. Wishing you all happy and safe driving.
